New Artwork

My new artwork draws largely on experiences from visiting places, a kind of ‘place mapping’.

I found myself studying Old Norse runes for the Norse Riddles inspired by Orkney, and falling into snowy pools of water whilst collecting information for The Big thaw in Northern Sweden!

I have enjoyed continuing the trend of machine stitching in work, whilst doing more drawing, as well as searching out found objects to integrate, see use of buttons in Golden Eggs and The Big Thaw.

The Tioram Triptych describes visually my adventures on Loch Moidart and took me back into history.

Coming into this new year of 2012 I feel very honoured to have been asked to do the cover image for the famous Buxton Festival. I enjoyed depicting a magic night at the opera, focussing on the beautiful building as the symbol it is for music, performance and imagination. It is such a landmark for this area, and this work has inspired me to take a closer look at landmarks, legends and legacies this year.
